Other News Epsom Riding for the Disabled are delighted and relieved to be the owners of their land at St Ebba's Farm, Hook Road, Epsom. They have been negotiating with NHS Estates for over 4 years and at times it seemed almost impossible. The sale was completed on Monday and this has now secured the future of the Group. The Chairman, Stella Milne, said "this was a great day for the Group and it was thanks to the foresight of our late Chairman, Rod Messer, who died last summer, before he was able to see his dream realised. Rod was the driving force behind the move to buy the property, and before that he was the Treasurer and ensured that we saved the money to enable us to buy the property." The Group, which has over 250 riders and over 100 helpers, is now planning to improve the facilities and help even more riders achieve their maximum potential. Stella says "we have a great bunch of volunteers who are looking forward to the future and making plans to provide even more opportunities to our riders. We also have great support from the community and the organisations who raise money for us, do photocopying and carry out special projects round the farm." Stella Milne, Chairman Well here we are,
let's hope that Epsom RDA can continue to go from strength to It's all down to you, who ride, volunteer and support our organisation that we are able to continue to provide such wonderful opportunities for riding for the children and adults who come along to our yard. Fundraising is an ongoing task and companies, association, schools, colleges, companies and individuals have been very generous to us over the past year. Again thank you to all members of the fundraising team for all the hard work put in to endure that our events are successful and our supporters are valued. Session leaders have to take
on a lot more responsibilities, training and health and safety have been
issues to address. It's no mean feat to run a session with care and professionalism
for riders, horses and volunteers well done to: The yard, fields and ground are always impeccably kept thanks to Jill Messer, Marion Feltham, Joe Coulman, Barry Curtis and Michael Pell who do a sterling job. Once the land has been purchased there will be a lot more to do, so thanks for all past, present and future work and hours you have put in.
We also hope to recruit new trustees this year and are in the process of putting together an information pack that will give details of the roles and responsibilities of a trustee. At present riders, parents and carers are greatly under represented on the board of trustees. A trustee would be expected to attend meetings every two months and to fully take part in the running of ERDA, that means helping with events and fundraising, bringing skills and talents to the board that will compliment the members already serving. If you would like to join one of the subcommittees first there is the newly formed training committee, the fundraising and events committee and we will need a property management committee in the very near future. There is a form attached to this newsletter, please fill it in if you would like an information pack or if you would like to have details of the various sub-committees. Epsom RDA is your association, help us the trustees to keep the lifeblood in the association fresh and vibrant. Lets all look forward to a happy and horsy New Year and we all look forward to seeing you at the various events throughout the year. Committee News |

CAN YOU HELP? Would you like to use your equestrian knowledge to help the disabled children and adults who are able to benefit from horse riding activities. If so we would be pleased to hear from you. Epsom Riding for the Disabled Association (ERDA) provides horse riding facilities at St Ebba's Farm to over 250 disabled children and adults. The total number of rides during the year is in the order of 3500. At present we have a complement of 10 horses that are grass kept on approximately 15 acres of grazing land and we are managed entirely by volunteers. We
need people experienced with horses to take part in our regular riding
sessions. Tasks they may be required to undertake include leading the
horses and walking beside the riders when required, preparing the horses
for the riders before the riding session starts and assisting with schooling
the horses. OTHER VOLUNTEERS We always
need people experienced with horses to take part in our regular riding
sessions. Task they may be required to undertake include leading the horses
and walking beside the riders when required, preparing the horses for
the riders before the riding session starts and assisting with schooling
the horses. |
